Finding the products

Each week, we’ll publish a list of Product ID tasks into the Task marketplace within the Find the product section. These tasks are updated weekly and are available Tuesday through Saturday.

It’s easy to spot the Product Identification tasks in the marketplace as they always contain the item’s name and the barcode number. Once you find the new and unused item at the store nearest to you (or even at home!), you can start the task and follow its instructions carefully.

We know that sometimes it is hard to decode the product names or find the correct barcode. Our team is constantly working to improve the lists, but meanwhile, here are some tips to help you successfully find and submit these tasks to maximize your earnings:

  • Retail Apps & Websites: Check retailer apps/sites such as Walmart and Target that let you search by UPC and product name. They may even indicate the stores with the item in stock near you and the aisle where it is located.

  • 3rd Party Sites: You may have luck looking for the UPC on barcode lookup websites such as https://www.barcodelookup.com/ or Googling the UPC to find a photo of what the product might look like.

  • Take Notes/Screenshots: If you can find the item in your research, take a screenshot of the item and note the task it is related to in the Premise app. Jot the UPC down in a notepad app on your phone, or take a screenshot to quickly find the task when you’re ready to start/reserve the task when you’ve found the product.

  • Specialty Items: Be sure to visit the Seasonal, Clearance, Organic, and Freezer sections first. Many of the UPCs are from those sections!

  • Pro-Tip: Sometimes, the same product can have different barcodes in the same store! It’s usually a good idea to examine a few before giving up.

  • Ask for Help: If you feel comfortable and the store is relatively slow, you can approach the store employee and communicate that you are conducting market research for Premise and ask if they could help you find products based on the UPC.

Photographing the items

As mentioned above, you must photograph the items from all possible angles, and all text in your pictures must be readable.

Unfortunately, if your submission is affected by light glare or wrinkles in the package and the text is not fully visible, it will be rejected, and you won’t receive payment for your work.

It is also essential to capture all sides of the package and any extra text on/behind flaps, hangtags, etc. Please take as many pictures as necessary to ensure all text is registered.

Here are some examples of wrong submissions to help you visualize it:
