Asia-Pacific 2022 in Review
Tracking Global Events
2022 proved to be another eventful year in the Asia-Pacific region. New leaders were elected in Malaysia, South Korea, Pakistan, and the Philippines; economic crises were exacerbated by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine; Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan marked the most tense period of cross-strait relations between Beijing and Taipei in decades; and natural disasters were just another reminder that the Asia-Pacific region is the world’s most disaster-prone. Premise polled the Philippine’s presidential election, monitored food prices and shortages in Asia-Pacific economies after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and tracked the effects of increased Chinese saber-rattling around Taiwan. To track all of this, Premise has created a dedicated space of its website to rapid-data collection projects in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
